Deadlock maps

As of the beta, there’s only one Deadlock map, which has three distinct lanes, and several areas of importance you need to know about.

Deadlock maps

The Deadlock map is the main playable area of the game. At present, there is only one distinct map, although the sandbox practice area could be counted as an additional albeit smaller map.

Be sure to check out the full Deadlock map below, which we will add to as we uncover more hidden details, and as the map changes with subsequent Deadlock updates.

Becoming familiar with the Deadlock map will give you an advantage over players who don’t know where to find container spawn areas, neutral minion camps and their Denizens which can be farmed for souls, teleporters, and even the Mid Boss that drops a really powerful boon.

Deadlock map guide

To better understand the Deadlock map, you need to know these important details:

Lanes and ziplines

The map features three (once four) distinct lanes, each of which are defended by three lines of defense: an initial Guardian, a giant Walker, and finally two Guardians at the entrance of the home base. Guardians have a very high health pool and a steady output of damage which deters players from assaulting them without Troopers present.

Each lane is supported by a zipline on which players and Troopers can travel so long as no enemies are nearby and the player is within friendly “territory.” Territory is taken by Trooper waves as they advance from one side of the map to the other. These ziplines make it incredibly easy to reinforce a threatened lane, but will only allow a player to travel as far as their territory allows.

Every lane has access to a Curiosity Shop from which the player can purchase Deadlock items so long as the nearby guardian has not been defeated by the enemy team. Once that line of defense has fallen, the shop will permanently close.

Jungle

In between each lane are a series of corridors, underground passageways, courtyards, rooftops, and other areas known as the “jungle.” This neutral zone contains a number of lucrative and powerful bonuses in the form of breakables like crates, golden statues, and camps of Denizens which can be farmed for Souls and permanent power-ups.

Power-ups can range from additional max ammo, max health, a higher fire rate, and more. The amount you get from each boost is relatively small, typically adding a single digit percent boost. However, collect enough boosts and pair it with the right items, and you can easily become an OP Deadlock character.

For this reason, becoming familiar with the jungle and farming the right areas without sacrificing lane advantage can mean the difference between victory and defeat for either team.

Rooftops

Rooftops deserve a special mention as accessing them can provide snipers and long-ranged characters with significant vantage points and damage-dealing opportunities.

Getting onto a roof is fairly easy as there are a number of ropes on the sides of buildings which characters can climb, and several jump pads which propel a player upwards. It is also possible to get onto a rooftop with a double jump if you can find a high enough ledge to perch on first.

However, go near a rooftop surrounded by spikes, and you’ll start to take damage until you leave the area or perish.

Subways

Several staircases lead to an underground area beneath the map. These areas or subways contain a few boxes and crates and, crucially, a teleporter. Teleporters have fixed places and teleport players who stand in the teleportation zone for a brief period to the associated destination.

Because the teleporters are in a narrow space and require a brief charging period, players who use the teleporters can be vulnerable to enemy characters. However, used wisely, these teleporters can redeploy the entire team for a lane push, gank, or for defensive plays.

Mid Boss

In the middle of the map is a large domed structure containing a large creature literally named “Mid Boss.” This creature is easily the most difficult foe on the map that isn’t the enemy’s Patron. The Mid Boss possesses a huge health pool, a regenerating shield, and immunity from all damage unless a player is in the pit where the creature is located.

Defeating the boss takes time, and leaves players vulnerable to attacks from the enemy team. As such, it is often best to tackle Mid Boss only when multiple players on the enemy team are awaiting respawn.

Beating Mid Boss grants the incredibly powerful “Rejuvenator Buff” which massively reduces respawn times once, increases player fire rate, and boosts all minion health by 50%. However, this buff is not granted directly to the team who dealt the most damage to the Mid Boss. Instead, the buff lowers from the ceiling off the arena, making it possible for one team to beat Mid Boss, and the other to steal the buff.

Soul Urns

Periodically, a Deadlock Soul Urn will spawn in one of two locations on the map. The team that is able to capture the urn and transport it to the altar on the opposite side of the map will earn a large amount of souls which increases for each urn that is delivered.

Future Deadlock maps

It’s unclear whether additional maps will be added to the game or whether Deadlock will follow a more Dota 2 route in having a single map. As the game is currently in playtest, there’s a chance that additional maps will be added closer to the Deadlock release date.

Once the decision has been made clear by Valve, we will update this page.
