In order to become the most powerful character on the map, you’ll first need to raise your Deadlock level by earning Souls. Leveling up in Deadlock is incredibly important as it grants you access to your more powerful abilities, and allows you to empower the ones you’ve already unlocked.
How do Deadlock levels work?
Starting off at level one, you will only have a single skill point with which you can unlock a single ability. In order to unlock more skills, you’ll need to increase your level. Levels work a bit differently in Deadlock compared to other games, as your level is tied to the game’s currency: Souls.
By killing enemy Troopers, heroes, Guardians, collecting Soul Urns, defeating Denizens, and destroying Deadlock breakables, you can earn Souls to spend at the Curiosity Shop. Every Soul you earn counts towards your total Souls accumulated. As you pass specific accumulated Soul thresholds, you will increase in level.
Spending Souls at the Curiosity Shop to acquire Deadlock items does not negatively impact your accumulated Soul thresholds, and so will not delay any level ups.

Upon reaching 47000 Souls, you will have reached the maximum Deadlock level, with all four abilities unlocked, all 32 talent points applied to max out all of those abilities, and 15 power increases (also called Patron Boons) which increase your hero’s base stats.
